Summary

Dr. Valoree Walker is the Research Ethics Coordinator for Yukon University. She has been working at the Research Centre of the College/University since 2004. As the Research Ethics Coordinator she is responsible for ensuring the ethical conduct of research at the University. The overall responsibilities in this capacity are for the day to day operations of the Research Ethics Office, human and animal research ethics, and research compliance.  Dr. Walker coordinates activities and provides administrative and technical guidance to faculty, staff and students on human research ethics and animal care and use. She is familiar with the relevant regulations, guidelines and standards to ensure institutional compliance. Previous work included the role of Northern Coordinator of the Resources and Sustainable Development in the Arctic (ReSDA) research network. This 7 year research program began in March 2011 with funding provided through the Major Collaborative Research Initiative (MCRI) of the Social Science and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC).  The research network examined ways for northern communities to maximize the benefits from resource developments in their regions. You can also find updates on the ReSDA  Facebook page and ReSDA Twitter site.  Prior to this network was the Social Economy Research Network of Northern Canada (SERNNoCa) with a social science research focus on the social economy of the North. The main coordination and administration site of this network was the Yukon Research Centre, Yukon College. Yukon University played a key role in the coordination and support of this research network. The Yukon Research Centre of the University served as the central site for all of the communications and logistical supports of the network.

Prior to this, Valoree was the Director for the Aurora Research Institute, Aurora College based in Inuvik, NT.
