Shawkat Shareef is a sociologist. He teaches various sociology courses in the School of Liberal Arts. His academic and scholarly interests are focused on community development, sustainable resource development, men and masculinities, gender, family, and social inequality. Currently, Shawkat’s offered courses include introductory sociology, social problems, Canadian society, family, men and masculinities, and society, technology, and values, women and social change, social research methods. He received his Ph.D. degree in Sociology from the University of Alberta in 2002 where he taught from 2001 until 2013 before joining the Yukon University in 2013. Shawkat is originally from Bangladesh and did his Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Social Science at the department of Sociology, University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh. Besides academia, his passion includes sports and long-distance motorbiking.
