Thanks to financial support from the YukonU Scholarly Activity Grant, I will be attending the Democracy R&D international conference in Brussels, Belgium in October 2025. I will be participating on a panel for the opening plenary discussion. Along with Dr. Christoph Niessen from the University of Antwerp, I will also be presenting a workshop proposal entitled “Citizens’ Assemblies in small polities: challenges and opportunities.” For this workshop, we are interested in exploring the contextual element of population size and how this affects citizens’ assemblies. We are seeking participants who have worked on citizen deliberation in small jurisdictions to identify challenges, opportunities and trade-offs that deliberative practices face in small socio-political contexts.
