Dana Jennejohn is a proud social worker! She is an instructor in the Bachelor of Social Work Program in the School of Health Education and Human Services at Yukon College. Dana has lived in the Yukon for over 16 years and has been an active member of the Association of Social Workers in Northern Canada since 2003. She is a generalist social worker and interests include northern social work practice, ethics, mental health, aging, substance use, trauma informed practice, anti-oppressive practice, decolonizing social work practice, working with individuals and families, and community development. Her research focus is on understanding social work practice in the Yukon and how practice here may be able to inform social work approaches across Canada.
Dana teaches courses on direct social work practice, mental health, substance use, northern social work practice, coordinates and the BSW Practicum and instructs the practicum integrative seminars. She also coordinates and co-instructs SW 352: Cultural Camp, which takes place every two years in collaboration with one of the Yukon First Nation governments.
Before teaching, Dana worked as a social worker for over ten years between British Columbia, Alberta and the Yukon in both urban and rural settings that included child welfare, psychosocial oncology, school counselling, mental health and individual and family counselling. She received her Bachelor of Social Work from the University College of the Caribou in 1997 and Master of Social Work from the University of Calgary in 2001.
