Project Overview
Office Administration students in Advanced Word Processing and Intermediate Excel collaborated on a research project about housing costs and mortgage rates in Yukon. Using a tool developed in their Excel class, they calculated monthly loan payments based on various interest rates and costs found in their research.
Students learned how interest accumulates and impacts the overall cost of borrowing. They also learned to develop a tool that can easily be used by any user, regardless of their technical skills. The students in two different classes using two Microsoft Office programs integrated their two projects using object linking and embedding (OLE) to create one tool for the user. The students used One Drive to collaborate in their work.
The goal of the project was for students to learn calculation and formula functions while using current valid data they researched and to understand the needs of users to develop a tool anyone can use.
