Applied Arts News
This is my first attempt at using OpenScholar for my monthly dean’s update. Previous to this, I’ve just emailed out updates to faculty and staff, but this will allow folks to subscribe to the blog via RSS feed or for me to simply email out a link to the blog whenever I’ve posted something new. We’ll see how it goes.
Now on to new news:
1. Indigenous Governance Degree & Quality Assurance: We’ve heard through the grapevine that progress is being made on the MOU between Alberta and Yukon for external quality assurance. Hopefully, we’ll be learning soon when the institutional review will commence and when the site visit for that review will happen.
2. Climate Change Policy: The application period for the new post-degree certificate has opened, and today at noon Dr. Frese will be giving an overview of the program to students in the Renewable Resources and Bachelor of Environmental and Conservation Science programs.
3. New Look College Intranet: The spring of 2017 will see the end of the College’s relationship with CampusCruiser. Since discontinuing use of CC’s Learning Management System, the College continued to use, albeit sparingly, the company’s portal, which we call MyYC. We will soon be moving toward a different kind of portal or intranet. This isn’t anything to worry about right now, but the Applied Arts admin team will begin figuring out what the division’s presence in this new portal should look like. A big piece of that project will be using Clean-Up Day to migrate files currently stored on MyYC, as well as the K- and Q-drives, to the new platform.
4. Yukon School of Visual Arts Student Art Exhibition: The annual exhibition of SOVA student artwork opens this week at the Yukon Arts Centre Community Gallery. The show runs from Mar. 3 to April 1, and there will be an opening reception at the YAC on Thursday, March 9, at 5:30 pm.
